How much does the TypeWell training course cost?

The Basic Skills and Refresher Courses include:
- Interactive training software
- Free technical support
- Regular feedback from TypeWell’s teaching team
- First-semester mentoring, including two Skill Consultations and one Turbo Courselet
Who pays for the candidate’s training?
As of 2025, all trainees must have a confirmed sponsor. Sponsors—typically schools, universities, or communication-access agencies—register and pay for the training.
TypeWell no longer accepts self-pay candidates or offers financial assistance.

When does the course start?
The Basic Skills Course runs in structured cohorts throughout the year. New start dates are announced based on demand and sponsorship commitments.

How long does the training take?
The course includes 29 lessons, totaling about 40–60 hours of study. Most trainees finish in 2–3 months, or sooner with full-time study.
The Refresher Course follows a similar structure but can often be completed more quickly.

What happens after the course?
After completing training, new transcribers begin supervised, on-the-job practice under their sponsor’s guidance.
They should:
- Shadow an experienced transcriber or mentor
- Start with on-site assignments before transitioning to remote work
- Participate in scheduled Skill Consultations for continued feedback

How do I find a suitable candidate for the course?

Should sponsors pay candidates during training?
Practices vary. Some sponsors pay an hourly or flat rate for lesson time, others reimburse only tuition. The key is maintaining engagement and accountability throughout the course.
What kind of laptop is required?
TypeWell runs on any standard Windows-based laptop. Ergonomic comfort should be a top priority—ensure the keyboard feels comfortable before purchase.
