Sample transcriber job description

Note: Below is a sample job description intended for postsecondary institutions that are hiring or contracting TypeWell transcribers. It is provided for informational purposes only and should not be copied verbatim. We encourage you to tailor the content to reflect your institution’s specific structure, HR classifications, and the needs of the students you serve. Job responsibilities and qualifications may vary depending on whether the transcriber is a staff member or independent contractor, as well as whether they provide services remotely or on site.

Additional Guidance for HR/hiring managers:

  • If you plan to include enrollment in the TypeWell Basic Skills Course as part of the position, please contact us first. We’re happy to review your job description and provide input.
  • Note that individuals must first qualify for the TypeWell training before enrolling in the Basic Skills Course — not everyone will be eligible. Even among those who qualify for the TypeWell training, course completion is not guaranteed. We strongly recommend building in contingency plans in case the individual does not complete training successfully.
  • Once your job posting is finalized, we also encourage you to share it with us so we can post it on our Job Board.
