Here’s how the TypeWell training process works:
Ensure you possess the necessary skills to succeed in the training
- Good listening and memory abilities
- Excellent English proficiency
- Typing speed of 60+ word per minute (WPM) without errors
- Basic computer knowledge
Consider your physical well-being
Transcribing involves sustained keyboard use. If you have a history of arm, wrist, or hand pain, it’s important to consider whether this type of work is a good fit. If pain or injury arises during training, the course will be paused and you may be asked to consult with a medical professional before continuing.
Complete the online application
Plan to spend 30-40 minutes on the FREE application. It includes:
- an overview of the training program
- equipment requirements
- information about the work of a TypeWell transcriber
Submitting an application does not guarantee course enrollment.
Identify a course sponsor (required)
All new trainees must have a confirmed sponsor—such as a school, university, agency, or employer—that provides a clear pathway to professional work and/or structured mentoring after training.
Sponsors coordinate enrollment and participate in the onboarding process. In some cases, sponsors may also assist with mentoring, teaming, or supervised practice.
TypeWell does not offer unsponsored self-pay enrollment for the Basic Skills Course.
Application acceptance & course fee
Once your application is reviewed and sponsorship is confirmed, registration and payment instructions are sent to the candidate and/or sponsor, depending on the sponsorship arrangement.
The current Basic Skills Course fee is $899 (USD). Payment responsibilities are determined by the sponsorship agreement.
Enrollment & course materials
After enrollment is finalized, TypeWell emails you and your sponsor with:
- registration details
- timing and start-date reminders
Training cohorts typically begin in the spring or early summer, depending on sponsored demand.
Course materials include a workbook and software installation instructions, which are sent shortly before the course begins.
Ongoing communication & support
Throughout the course, TypeWell communicates with both the trainee and sponsor regarding:
- course progress and test scores
- individualized teacher feedback
- technical or scheduling issues, as needed
Candidates and sponsors should plan ahead for any equipment or technical support needs.
