This article explains how to choose an account manager who can sign in to the TypeWell website to manage your software licenses.
Who can use TypeWell software?
TypeWell transcribing software can be used only by individuals who have successfully completed our TypeWell transcribing course.
Who can license TypeWell software?
The TypeWell software license may be purchased and managed by:
- A trained transcriber, and/or
- An employer of a trained transcriber
Purchasing a TypeWell software license conveys the right for a trained transcriber to use a particular version of the software (see the license agreement for conditions). Each license may only be active on one computer at a time.
If you are an independent contractor (a freelance transcriber), then you will manage your own software license by logging in to your transcriber account.
If you are a school or agency with one or more software licenses, then you’ll need to identify an account manager. This is the email address and login that will be tied to your organization’s licenses.
⚠️ Important note about access
Because only one email can be tied to a TypeWell account, it’s normal for multiple staff (billing, transcribers, tech) to need the login at different times. The account does not contain sensitive student information or payment details; it is only used to manage software licenses. It is standard practice for different staff within an institution to have access to this account — this ensures there are no delays or interruptions in services for students.
Choosing an account manager
Your account manager does not need to be a tech person. The most important factor is that they are someone you can reach quickly when an update or license refresh is needed. If the transcriber cannot access the account in time, support services for students may be interrupted.
Typical choices for an account manager at an educational institution are:
- The coordinator of services for deaf students
- The lead TypeWell transcriber at your site
- The disability support department’s tech person
Less ideal choices: a district- or campus-wide IT administrator who may not be easily reachable, or a staff member who is not involved in supporting the transcriber(s).
Best practices
- Many schools set up a role-based email address (e.g., typewell@yourdistrict.org) so multiple staff can access the account when needed.
- If that’s not possible, it’s fine for the billing admin to hold the account and provide credentials for shared access, when the transcriber or tech person needs to install updates or refresh license keys.
- If your account manager changes roles or leaves your organization, just contact us and we’ll update the account information.
