Not necessarily. TypeWell supports a variety of linking methods to accommodate different environments, devices, and levels of internet access.
On-Site Services
For on-site TypeWell services, an internet connection is not always required. The transcript can be sent directly from the transcriber's laptop to the reader’s device (such as an iPad or tablet) using a local wireless network—even without external WiFi or internet access.
If no WiFi is available, the transcriber can create a virtual access point from their own laptop. This allows the transcript to be broadcast to any nearby WiFi-enabled device, without needing to connect to the internet.
Remote Services
For remote TypeWell services, a reliable internet connection is required—either wired or wireless. This connection is necessary to:
- Transmit audio from the class or meeting site to the remote transcriber (usually via Zoom or another video conferencing tool)
- Deliver the live transcript back to the reader through Web Linking or another streaming method
