What Is an Installation Number?
Your installation number identifies the specific copy of TypeWell installed on your computer.
It is not the same as your license key, which is the password used to activate the software.
Here’s how the process works:
- You install TypeWell and the program displays a unique installation number.
- You enter that number into the license management webpage.
- The license server returns a license key (unless there’s an issue with your subscription or payment).
Each installation—even on the same computer—generates a different installation number.
Example installation number:
66KP-3WK8-QY7K-8Q87-867T
When and Where to Find It
The installation number will appear automatically when your license key is due for refresh.
You’ll see it in the license activation window, which:
- Shows how many days remain on your current license
- Provides a space to enter the new license key
You can also open this window manually:
- In the TypeWell program, go to File > Update License Key
To avoid errors, leave the activation window open while retrieving your license key. This ensures you're copying the correct installation number.
Tips for Entering the Installation Number
When entering the number into the license management webpage:
- Use all the dashes in the correct places
- Don’t type any spaces
- Letter case doesn’t matter (uppercase/lowercase are both fine)
Common Issues
Time Zone Glitch
If you try to refresh your license on the last day of the month, you might get an error saying your system date is incorrect.
This happens when your time zone differs from our license server’s.
✅ Try refreshing the next day (the 1st of the new month).
License Key Invalidated
If your computer:
- Crashes
- Shuts down improperly
- Runs out of battery
…then the license key may become invalid.
You’ll need to refresh the license again, even if it’s earlier than expected.
