TECHWell 2016
"Where Technology Shapes Access"
Jun 14 - Jun 17, 2016 | Reno, NV
TypeWell's international conferences typically take place every 2-3 years, and the 2016 conference in Reno, NV was the largest, longest, and most involved yet, with nearly 100 participants attending concurrent workshops, coordinated events, and social outings scheduled over four days! This professional development event was for TypeWell transcribers and other speech-to-text providers, disability service coordinators, business owners, IT staff, AT specialists, and anyone else involved in the delivery and support of communication access services for D/deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
We celebrated several "firsts" with this conference:
- First time holding the conference at a non-campus venue
- First time having a speed networking social event
- First time sending participants on Uptime outings
- First public meeting of ATSP (transcribingnetwork.org)
Interactive workshops covered a variety of topics for a diverse audience:
- A Parent's Perspective
- Accessibility and Copyright
- Professional Ethics
- Math Mode
- Quality Assurance
- Dual Service Providers
- Boosting Typing Speed
As usual, we pulled this this off with an all-volunteer planning committee made up of TypeWell service coordinators, agency owners, and transcribers. We are proud that our volunteers and presenters pulled off such a great event!
