internet connectivity issues

Doris Pierce Nov 18, 2016 02:28PM MST

Good Afternoon!

Our campus experiences inconsistent internet connectivity issues for a good part of the workday at times. We are considering providing data plans for the iPads we use as reader devices and wifi hotspots for our transcribers' computers.

Please advise as to how your higher education institutions solve this issue and what cost-effective measures they put into place to insure consistent internet connectivity as well as providing access.

Thank you,

We have the same issue, so continue to use the internal linking with peer-to-peer wifi. That is the only way we know that the link will be consistent.

Hi Kim -- If you're using Internal Linking, then Peer-to-peer Linking will not work at the same time, at least not via the same wireless card. Do your transcribers switch from Internal Linking to Peer-to-peer Linking as needed? Or do they have multiple wireless cards in their laptops? (By "wireless card" I'm talking about the wireless network adapter in the computer.)

We have had similar issues in two buildings on campus and considered purchasing the hot spots as well. Eventually, we decided to go with internal linking feature in some spaces and had to resort to the ethernet cable linking in other buildings. We also contacted our Office of Information Technology and worked with them until the problems were solved.
