Sponsorship Policy effective September 1, 2014:
Candidates who enroll in the Basic Skills Course may no longer pay their own tuition, except in limited circumstances (see "Exceptions" below). The Basic Skills Course tuition must be paid by a current or potential employer, known as a "sponsor." See the Pricing page for current tuition fees.
In the educational setting, TypeWell candidates are usually sponsored by the Disability Support Services department within the school district or university. Candidates may also be sponsored by agencies, which in turn contract with schools, businesses, and organizations to provide communication access for their students, employees, and other clients.
Exceptions to the policy
Former transcribers who are completing the Refresher Course to renew their service qualification may pay their own course fee and are not required to have a sponsor.
Candidates are not required to have a sponsor if the training would qualify as continuing education; i.e., if the candidate is already working a related such as such as sign language interpreting, post-production captioning, or medical transcription, for which TypeWell transcribing would be an extension of their existing skillset.
Are you looking for a potential sponsor?
You can find potential sponsors by visiting the Organization Directory maintained by our nonprofit professional organization: Association of Transcribers and Speech-to-text Providers (ATSP).
We are also happy to search our internal database of educational institutions or agencies in your area that may be recruiting new transcribers.
