This article explains how to configure StenoCAT computer-aided transcription (CAT) software to output to TypeWell's V7 Connect program, both of which are installed locally on your computer. Any text that you type, voice, or otherwise input into the Connect program can then be immediately transmitted to a unique webpage viewer on our Caption-Viewer platform.
Configure Eclipse with V7 Connect
Configure ProCAT with V7 Connect
First, you need to:
- Exit out of the StreamText.Net Connector program if you have it running.
- Download and install the HW Virtual Serial Port program if you haven't already done so.
To configure StenoCAT to connect with Connect (caption-viewer) for the first time:
Create your Virtual Serial Port (COM3)
Launch the HW Virtual Serial Port program from the list of Programs in your Windows Start menu or by double-clicking the desktop icon.
Under the Virtual Serial Port tab, verify that the Port Name is set to COM3, the IP Address is set to 127.0.0.1 and the Port is set to 6978.
If the VSP is not already Created, click Create COM.
The VSP section should show a Status: Created.
If the VSP section shows Status: Error, you may have the StreamText.Net Connector or another virtual serial port program running. If so, close that program and then try again.
Configure StenoCAT realtime settings
In StenoCAT, open User Preferences and select the Realtime tab. Set the Bridge protocol to COM3.
Test connection between StenoCAT and Connect
Writing on the steno keyboard should now show up in the Connect screen.
To stream text from Connect over the Internet to a remote client, follow the instructions here: How to use Web Linking.
