How much do transcribers get paid?

Last Updated: Dec 27, 2013 03:57PM MST
Use our interactive Cost Estimator for cost considerations when preparing a budget.

Because salaries vary by geographic area, we cannot quote a "standard" rate of pay for TypeWell speech-to-text transcribers. But we can tell you that the pay rate for beginning transcribers is usually similar to that paid to beginning sign language interpreters in any particular region. This rate averages around $15/hr to $40/hr, depending on the school and area involved. In some areas it can be as high as $50/hr or more, depending on the local cost of living, supply and demand, and local policies. Compensation at the lower end of the range often comes with benefits.
